Set modeling
I’ve been very busy lately by modeling the sets for ‘Rhapsody with James’. Below is the street set model. The buildings you see in the background are just placeholders for the matte painting and won’t be rendered. I’ll also probably change a few things here and there after I model the other sets, nothing mayor just to glue everything together. Share → Tweet
RWJ: Another concept
Here’s another concept from Rhapsody with James. I’m basically just putting elements there to see how much needs to be modeled and how much can be painted. I’m not to keen on the mirror and the picture on the back wall so that one might be rearranged in the final film. Share → Tweet
Designing the rhapsody world
I’ve taken a bit of time off after I’ve finished Animation mentor. This means resting mostly. I was just too exhausted to continue by the same rate as I had for the last nine months. I worked on Rhapsody a bit here and there though. Mostly planning what still has to be done in order to finish the film. This includes set design, modeling, some animation and lighting the whole film. The animation is 90% finished which is cool. When I started animating everything that wasn’t essential for animation wasn’t... Read The Rest →
Rhapsody with James – a little poster for fun
This one is just for fun. I had an idea for the poster image for my short film ‘Rhapsody with James’ and decided to do it when I’ll need a break from animation. So I did it here and there and finally put it together. The model doesn’t have any final textures or shading applied like it will have in the film, because I made just a simple render and then played with it mostly in Photoshop. Though it was pretty much done for fun it’s also cool to see... Read The Rest →
Animation: “Herr Zummer”
This is another animation that I did at Animation Mentor. It’s a dialogue animation assignment I did in class 4. Share → Tweet
Progress, corrections and clarity
I’ve been working on blocking or better reblocking pass of Rhapsody with James for the past few weeks. One most notable change was the shot which I showed a few posts back. At first everything was shown in one shot. James coming home -> coughing -> hat and going into another room as you can see below. But as my mentor Robert Russ pointed out there were clarity issues. Thus I replaced it with a series of shots which showed more closely what’s happening and also lengthened the shots so... Read The Rest →
Animation: “Shrink…”
To break a bit from ‘Rhapsody with James’ I’m posting some of my work that I did at Animation Mentor. This is a dialogue animation assignment I did in classes 3&4. Share → Tweet
Clothing setup
Though I’ve mainly used this week to rest from Animation Mentor I also had to finish James’ character setup since it wasn’t fully finished. There was always a doubt whether or not I’ll need cloth simulation which I tried to avoid at all costs since cloth simulations are very time consuming and quite hard to set up, even though the results can be very rewarding. Since I have all the shots blocked in quite nicely I can see I actually don’t need as much cloth dynamics as I thought at... Read The Rest →
Busy bee…
Been very busy lately animating ‘Rhapsody with James’ and other work for my short film. There were some mayor changes on one mayor shot which was almost 60% done and was about 10 seconds long. What happened is that my mentor (Robert Russ) thought it might work better if we show it in a different way to better tell the story. Thus I split it into 4 shots and lengthened it into almost 20 second sequence. I’m really happy I did it because I think it looks so much better... Read The Rest →
Blocking, blocking…
For the last few weeks I was blocking the whole short (which I still am). So far so good: some shots worked the way I hoped and some didn’t at all so I had to change a few things here and there like adding a new shot, changing camera angles or simply playing with new ideas. Below is a clip in second block stage (mayor poses and inbetweens) showing just when James comes home… Click, click, click… Share → Tweet
